BandLab, a free cross-platform social music software, featured as an innovative web audio and mobile music creation tool to audience of 7,000 top developers
Mountain View, California & Singapore, Singapore; Friday 10 May 2019 – This week Singapore-based startup BandLab (bandlab.com) was twice featured as a leader in the audio technology field at Google I/O. Google I/O is the annual Android developers conference, attended by 7,000 of the world’s top programmers. This appears to be the first time that a Singapore startup has been featured at the prestigious tech gathering.
BandLab, a free-to-use social music platform, was highlighted in two Google presentations: as a creative tool for a pediatric cancer patient programme, and as a collaboration tool used by a team of professional musicians in different countries to develop a hit song. BandLab’s selection at I/O is recognition of the platform’s innovation in web audio and mobile audio, in close collaboration with Google.
The first use of BandLab is by Lad In a Battle, founded by US-based social entrepreneur James Orrigo, who uses the arts and music to uplift children fighting life-threatening illnesses. BandLab was the tool of choice for the ‘Bridging Rooms Project’, where students band together to cheer up a pediatric patient and bring his favourite things to life using video, art, & music. The case study demonstrates the power of music to inspire and enrich lives.
The second case study features BandLab as a key enabler in the production process for a top commercial dance track, ‘We Need A Change’. The track is a collaboration by three creatives based in London, San Francisco and Los Angeles. With more music production happening across time zones, the artists – Linah London, Se Hwang Kim, and Andy Ryu – sought a technical solution that allowed them to work on and share their song edits seamlessly. BandLab’s free and high quality technology allowed them to turn their creative ideas into reality. The track achieved a spot on the top 10 dance chart.
“To be featured by Google as one of the global leaders in web and mobile audio is a tremendous honour. Google I/O is one the most prestigious tech events globally and being showcased is a strong endorsement that the work we are doing is making a difference – not just for musicians, but anyone who wants to express themselves through music. Our goal is to connect musicians and fans around the world using technology and I’m personally proud that we are representing Singapore-grown innovation on a global stage.” said Meng Ru Kuok, CEO of BandLab Technologies.
Simultaneously, BandLab announced that this week it surpassed 7 million registered users, hailing from over 130 countries worldwide. BandLab’s users are now making over 2 million songs on the platform every month. The app is available for download on the Google Play and Apple app stores, and the web version is accessible at www.bandlab.com.
